ไอแอมเดินทางไปยังบ้านเกิดของเขาอีกครั้งเพื่อหวังเอายาที่สามารถรักษาเซเลน่าได้มาจากฮิสบ์ เพราะเขาไม่สามารถทนเห็นพี่ชายของเขาแตกสลายๆไปพร้อมกับหญิงสาวที่พี่ชายของเขาหลงรักได้ แต่นั่นทำให้ไอแอมถูกจับตัวไป จนเขาได้พบกับ maichen ไอแอมปราถนาในตัวของหญิงสาวทันทีทั้งคู่นัดเจอกันที่คาบินของเรฟหลังจากที่ไอแอมหลบหนีออกมาจากอาณานิคมได้ ไอแอมใจนึงก็รู้ว่าไม่ว่ายังไงเขาก็ต้องเห็นพี่ชายของเขาแตกสลายไปพร้อมๆกับเซเลน่าเพราะเขาล้มเหลวในภารกิจที่จะหาหนทางในการรักษาชีวิตของเธอ

เรารอหนังสือเล่มนี้มา 1 ปีเต็มๆ นับตั้งแต่ The King วางขายเมื่อเดือนเมษาปีที่แล้ว ... ผลปรากฏออกมาว่า ก่อนที่เราจะอ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้จบ กระแสทั้งใน GR FB Twitter มาแรงมากๆ ถึงตอนจบของหนังสือ แม้ว่าเราจะพอเดาได้หลังจากอ่าน The Shadows ไปไม่กี่บทก็ตามว่าตอนจบต้องเป็นแบบนี้ แต่เราก็ไม่คิดไม่ฝันว่า J.R. Ward จะช่างกล้าที่จะเขียนเนื้อเรื่องออกมาแบบนี้ซึ่งขัดกับกฎเหล็กของนิยายโรมานซ์อย่างแรง แต่ใครจะกล้าไปว่าเธอล่ะ เราเชื่อว่าต้องมีใครหลายคนที่คิดแบบเราหลังจากที่อ่านหนังสือเล่มนี้จบแน่ๆ ว่า J.R. Ward เธอไม่ใช่นักเขียนที่นึกจะเขียนหนังสือเพื่อเอาใจคนอ่าน แต่เธอเลือกที่จะเขียนหนังสือออกมาให้ดูออกมาเป็นธรรมชาติ เหมือนกับนั่งฟังตัวละครต่างๆเล่าเรื่องราวของพวกเขาผ่านทางหน้าหนังสือเสียมากกว่าการนั่งฟังผู้แต่งเป็นคนเล่าเรื่องเสียเอง

เราอยากจะบอกว่า...ความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างเทรซกับเซเลน่าคือความสัมพันธ์ที่สวยงามที่สุดในซีรีย์ชุดนี้ โดยเฉพาะตอนจบที่เห็นชัดๆเลยว่าจะยิ้มก็ยิ้มไม่ออก จะร้องไห้ก็ร้องไม่ออก โอยยยยยย...โดยเฉพาะฉากในห้องตรวจของเจนอ่ะ ทำให้เรานึกถึงฉากในหนังเรื่อง If I Stay เลยอ่ะ ดูแล้วน้ำตาไหลพรากๆ

อีกเรื่องก็คือ ... พาราไดซ์... นางเอกของเรื่อง Blood Kiss เป็นตัวละครตัวใหม่ของเล่มนี้ แถมยังเกริ่นๆเนื้อเรื่องการพบกันระหว่างพาราไดซ์กับเคร็กอีกด้วย คือเอาจริงๆนะ...พาราไดซ์เป็นตัวละครที่ไร้ซึ่งความสำคัญในการขับเนื้อเรื่องให้เดินไปข้างหน้าในเล่มนี้มากๆ ไปเริ่มต้นจริงๆในเล่ม Blood Kiss ก็ยังไหวเลย แอบสงสัยว่าจะใส่ตัวละครนี้เพิ่มมาทำไม หรือว่าจะเป็นอินดิวซ์นิดๆว่าผู้แต่งกำลังจะเปิดซีรีย์ชุดใหม่สินะ

โรมานซ์ระหว่างไอแอมกับ maichen ก็ดูเหมือนจะเร่งๆไปหน่อย เจอกันตอนกลางๆเล่ม ... ยังไม่ทันไรก็ลงเอยกันแล้วอ่ะ ส่วนเรื่องคอร์ก็ fucked-up เช่นเคย ตามประสา B.o.B. นั่นแหละ (ที่จริงเราชอบคู่ของคอร์นะ แต่เจอแบบนี้เข้าไปก็มีวื้ดอยู่เหมือนกัน) ที่ดูโดดเด่นที่สุดยังไงก็ไม่พ้นคู่เทรซกับเซเลน่านั่นแหละ เราเทคะแนนให้คู่นี้ 5 ดาว ส่วนไอแอม 3 ดาวครึ่งพอ

เป็นครั้งแรกในรอบปีที่อ่านหนังสือแล้ว #ร้องไห้หนักมาก ร้องชนิดที่ว่าส่งเสียงกระซิกๆออกมาแบบไม่เกรงใจคนรอบข้างเลยด้วยซ้ำ 555 ยอมรับว่า J.R. Ward ปูเนื้อเรื่องมาแปลกๆในความรู้สึกเรา ยังมีแหม่งๆอยู่บ้าง ความซึ้ง...ถึงจะน้ำเน่ากับมุกเดิมๆที่นิยายหลายเรื่องหยิบไปใช้จนเกร่อ แต่ก็ทำให้เราประทับใจในตอนจบได้ เอ้อ...มีเรื่องของเรจกับแมรี่แทรกเข้ามาด้วยแหละ ถ้าใครคิดถึงคู่นี้คงจะชอบเล่มนี้แน่ๆ ถึงแม้ว่าเรจจะแอบดราม่าไปหน่อยก็เหอะ เพราะประสบการณ์ของเทรซในเรื่องนี้ก็คล้ายๆกับสิ่งที่เกิดขึ้นกับเรจอยู่เหมือนกัน

ปล.อ่านมาราธอนมาก หนังสือเล่มหนามาก ตอนแรกตื่นเต้นมาก กลางๆเล่มมีเนือยๆนิดหน่อย หลังๆน้ำตาไหลยังกับเปิดก๊อก สรุปคือคุ้มค่าที่ได้อ่าน ถึงแม้ว่าจะแอบชอบ The King มากกว่านิดนึง

เล่มนี้จะมีเรื่องของราธรุ่นพ่อกับเชลแลนของเขาแทรกเป็นระยะๆ โรแมนติคน่ารักมากๆเลยคู่นี้

ราธ บุตรแห่งราธใช้ชีวิตภายใต้ภาระอันหนักอึ้งแห่งการเป็นราชาของเผ่าพันธุ์ร่วมกับเชลแลนของเขา เบธ แต่ราธไม่รู้เลยว่าเบธปราถนาจะมีลูกขนาดไหน เบธใช้เวลาส่วนมากในการพูดคุยแลกเปลี่ยนประสบการณ์กับเลย์ล่าและหวังลึกๆว่าช่วงเวลาต้องการของตนจะมาถึงโดยเร็ววัน
