เชน ฮอลแลนเดอร์ และ อิลยา โรซานอฟ ยังเป็นเพียงดาวรุ่งวัยรุ่นตอนที่เจอหน้ากัน ทั้งคู่ถูกวางตัวให้เป็นคู่แข่งกันตั้งแต่ก่อนเข้าลีก NHL เชนคือเด็กหนุ่มชาวแคนาดา ภาพลักษณ์ดีสมบูรณ์แบบ ขยันและจริงจัง ส่วนอิลยาคือหนุ่มรัสเซียอัจฉริยะ มาดกวน ปากร้าย และดูหยิ่งยโส สื่อมวลชนและแฟนคลับต่างสร้างกระแสให้ทั้งคู่เกลียดกัน ซึ่งในสนามแข่งพวกเขาก็ดูเหมือนจะเป็นอย่างนั้นจริงๆ
